Wet-Out

Saturation of a shell's outer fabric, which stops it breathing and feels like a leak.

Taped Seams

Stitch lines sealed with bonded tape so water cannot enter through needle holes.

Ripstop

A reinforcing grid woven into a fabric so a tear does not spread beyond it.

GSM (Grams per Square Metre)

The weight of a square metre of fabric in grams. 150 to 200 is the general travel base layer range.

Denier

A measure of yarn thickness. Higher denier means heavier, tougher fabric and less packability.

Hydrostatic Head

The water column height a fabric resists before leaking, in millimetres, measured under ISO 811 or similar.
